Emeritus status for faculty is based upon two conditions:
- The faculty member is eligible for retirement under the New Mexico Educational Retirement act or the Federal Civil Services; and
- The faculty member is tenured; or is a non-tenure track faculty at the rank of professor.
In addition to standard retiree benefits, emeritus faculty shall be listed for life as emeriti faculty in the catalog and the phone directory; have on-campus office or work facilities (subject to availability and approval); and may serve as an emeritus consultant.
If you meet the criteria outlined in ARP 8.65 and are planning retirement, contact your primary department head and notify him/her that you are requesting emeritus status. Your department head should submit a memorandum on your behalf to the college dean stating you are eligible and outlining your request for benefits. If approved, the dean’s office must submit the final approved copy to the office of the executive vice president and provost and to benefit services.
