RE: Courtesy Reminder – medical plan rate changes
DATE: May 30, 2014
The State of New Mexico Risk Management Division (RMD) made substantial changes to the medical plans in 2013/2014. Effective January 1, 2014, the state moved to calendar plan year. This means that all plan design changes and vendor changes, if made, would go into effect each January. This also means all deductibles start over each January.
Separately, the state runs on a fiscal year budget cycle (July-June) which means rate/premium changes will occur in July. As was shared with employees in October 2013 during the state annual enrollment meetings, the rates for the medical plans will be increasing as of July 1, 2014 by 10%. A copy of the new rates is posted on the website at http://hr.nmsu.edu/benefits/wp-content/uploads/sites/15/2013/04/B_I_Insurance_Premium_Rates_Summary.pdf.
Please also remember the following changes that were made in 2013.
- The late enrollment option under the medical plan will no longer be available.
- New employees that do not sign up during their initial 31 days of employment will not be able to add the medical plan until the next open enrollment period, unless they experience a change in status.
- Open enrollment periods will be available in the Fall; however we do not have any details regarding the dates for the enrollment, the enrollment process or what changes will be made, if any. Once received by Benefit Services, details will be shared with employees via NMSU e-mail, NMSU hotline and the benefits website.
Questions regarding NMSU benefit programs should be directed to email@example.com or 575-646-8000.
