Below is a listing of courses offered under the Leadership Development program. There is a brief description of each course and a link to view training dates and register for the training. AFSCME Bargaining Agreement

The bargaining agreement between NMSU and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) union applies to the majority of non-exempt NMSU employees.  This 3.5 hour session, presented jointly by HR Services Employee & Management Services and AFSCME, will provide an overview of the articles of the agreement with an emphasis on the objectives of the parties to the Agreement and documents or procedures associated with the Agreement. Constructive Confrontations

This 1.5 hour workshop, facilitated by the Employee Assistance Program department, will assist supervisors in developing a strategy for addressing difficult employee issues before they become huge problems and how to make a referral of an employee to the Employee Assistance Program. Customer Service Coaches Training

This 4 hour course, facilitated by NMSU Training and Development, defines the roles of coaches/leaders utilizing positive reinforcement, modeling expected behavior and effective listening skills development. The course helps supervisors and managers understand expectations that employees have of their leaders, realize the benefits of daily coaching and reinforcement of desired behaviors, and build more self-confident and effective employees who provide superior customer service to students, internal and external customers of NMSU. Dealing with Personnel Issues

Taking a proactive approach to improving employee performance and behavior is a key element of successful performance management. This interactive 2 hour course, facilitated by Employee & Management Services, looks at the University’s progressive disciplinary process and the Supervisor’s related responsibilities. It examines proactive approaches toward improving performance and behavior, reprimands, and as a last resort terminations and the appeal process. Evaluating Employee Performance

This 4 hour interactive course, facilitated by NMSU Training and Development, is designed to provide front line supervisors and management personnel with improved evaluation skills and a better understanding of the Performance Evaluation system and forms used at NMSU.

This course expands on one of the 6 steps of Performance Management, Evaluating Performance.  In order to receive the full benefit of the training, participants should have attended the Performance Management Overview course or have previously attended the Performance Management and Evaluations training. Click here to register for Evaluating Employee Performance.

Performance Management

This two hour course, facilitated by NMSU Training and Development, provides participants with a better understanding of Performance Management, its key components, and methods to implement a performance management process for their department or work team. Reasonable Suspicion

This four hour course, facilitated by Employee & Management Services, is intended to educate supervisors in making fair and reliable reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing referrals of employees performing safety-sensitive job functions.
