Purpose of Classification:
Performs complex operational, compliance, information technology, financial, and/or investigative internal audits for the centralized internal audit function, and provides management advisory services in accordance with IIA Standards and Code of Ethics. Works under limited supervision and general direction. Errors made in this position can cause substantial expense and affect the accuracy and value of an audit.
Standard Duties:
Performs complex internal audits for the centralized internal audit function: operational, compliance, information technology, financial, and/or investigative internal audits. Collect and analyze data to detect deficient controls, duplicated effort, extravagance, fraud, or non-compliance with laws, regulations, and management policies. Prepare, analyze, and verify reports, financial information, and other records to assess financial condition and facilitate financial planning. Prepare detailed reports on audit findings and report findings to management about asset utilization, audit results, and recommend changes in operations and financial activities. Develops audit plans and performs initial and follow-up audits in accordance with IIA Standards and Code of Ethics. Reviews and evaluates operations and processes and completes work papers to document work performed. Develops and evaluates audit findings; prepares and presents the results of audit work and recommendations to management in the form of oral and written communications. Coordinates and interacts with administrators, faculty, and staff, and with external audit and law enforcement agencies, as needed; may be required to testify in court; may also be required to interact with university students and alumni, and with vendors doing business with the university. May consult with and advises university administrators, faculty, and staff on operational and administrative issues. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Advanced knowledge of auditing concepts and principles. Advanced knowledge of court processes and legal documentation requirements. Advanced knowledge of financial recordkeeping procedures, laws, regulations, and standards. Advanced knowledge of budgeting, cost estimating, and fiscal management principles and procedures. Advanced knowledge of university and/or public auditing policies, standards, and procedures. Knowledge of current changes and/or developments in applicable federal, state, local laws, and university policies and procedures.
Advanced skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures. Employee development and performance management skills.
Ability to develop and implement audit plans and schedules. Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals. Ability to provide technical guidance and training to end users. Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Five (5) years of professional experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.
   Equivalency- Graduate degree in related field may substitute for 2 years experience.
