Purpose of Classification:
Manages all activities of the Balloon Quality Assurance department. Develops, implements, and maintains an integrated Safety, Reliability, and Quality Assurance (SR & QA) program pertaining to all aspects of operational support for high altitude scientific balloon operations including flight and ground hardware, flight and ground software, balloon quality assurance, and operational processes and procedures.
Standard Duties:
Supervises, directs, delegates, and evaluates work of assigned staff. Approves, monitors and supervises balloon supplier's quality/reliability programs. Develops and implements QA plans in compliance with NASA contract requirements and supports NASA R & D projects as directed. Directs both in-house and field testing of products and systems as they are performed by field CSBF staff and suppliers. Maintains QA Materials Test Lab at CSBF. Conducts review meetings with suppliers to address quality issues and concerns. Reports status and progress of all projects as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of university and department policies and procedures. Knowledge of general principles and practice of organization and administration; principles of supervision; training and employee evaluation. Knowledge of laboratory and field research techniques.
Skill in short and long term planning; problem analysis and resolution; report preparation and presentation; interpersonal and organizational communication, both oral and written.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships; maintain accurate and orderly records; use independent judgment and initiative; organize and direct activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Five (5) years of professional experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.
   Equivalency- None
   Certifications/License- Specific certification and/or licensure requirements may exist for individual positions in this classification.
