Purpose of Classification:
Responsible for the leadership, administrative oversight, and coordination of all aspects of online and digital education initiatives occurring throughout the NMSU System, including all campuses, thereby playing an integral role in shaping NMSU’s future BY achieving strategic goals set out in NMSU LEADS 2025 (nmsu.edu/LEADS), which fosters both student success and social mobility, and extension and outreach.
Standard Duties:
Working in close partnership with system leadership, the Vice Provost will drive the development of new digital learning initiatives; guide a growing portfolio of online programs, their marketing, delivery, evaluation, assessment and accreditation; oversee the infrastructure and processes to support their success, including finding new ways to better capitalize on NMSU’s extension and outreach network; and assist with the development of the business models upon which these initiatives operate. Successful strategies will address how best to deploy online and digital education to support distance degree programs; seek to enhance the experience of campus-based undergraduate, graduate, and professional students through digital tools and materials; and serve the needs of learners at all stages of their lives and careers. A key component of this work will include strategizing with academic units to assist them in reaching new markets including industry partnerships, working adults, active and retired military personnel, and other post-traditional students, both domestically and internationally with an emphasis on Mexico, where NMSU enjoys many relationships and commitments to institutional collaboration. Directly reporting to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Vice Provost for Digital Learning Initiatives will oversee the integration of technology into traditional face-to-face programs; NMSUO (online.nmsu.edu); Instructional Innovation and Quality -- consisting of Instructional Media Services, Academic Technology, Distance Education and the Online Course Improvement Program (learning.nmsu.edu); and the Albuquerque Learning Center (abq.nmsu.edu). The Vice Provost for Digital Learning Initiatives will maximize student enrollment and retention by serving as a changemaker who ensures NMSU provides innovative educational experiences that enhance the university’s reputation, visibility, and reach, while growing new resources to further strengthen the NMSU system. The Vice Provost will be a strategic and innovative thinker, and a creative and energetic leader of both people and programs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
University policies and procedures; State and Federal Laws as they relate to education, research, funding, personnel management among others; principles and practices of organization and administration; principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation.
Strategic and tactical planning; complex problem analysis and resolution; public contact and relations; sensitive oral and written communication.
Direct, evaluate, guide and lead the work of assigned personnel; develop and maintain effective working relationships; negotiate with others on proposals and programs as they relate to the academic success of the institution; use independent judgment and initiative; organize and direct activities; analyze and evaluate information.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Master’s degree in a related field.
   Experience- Five (5) years of professional experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined; teaching experience in online delivery.
