Purpose of Classification:
The Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences is responsible for the development, administration and promotion of the College and its programs, ensuring high quality instruction in an inclusive and engaging learning environment. The Dean provides leadership to its diverse faculty, staff, students and colleagues in the areas of teaching/learning, research, scholarly activities, service and outreach.
Standard Duties:
The Dean serves as the leader, administrator, and evaluator of the College who promotes academic achievement and student learning consistent with established education objectives, quality standards and fiscal responsibility. Supports the research, scholarship, and creative activity mission of the College. Supervises and evaluates assigned personnel. Responsible for development and/or administration of budgets. Seeks and motivates others to pursue potential sources of funding for the college including fundraising. Serves as liaison between the college and the university community, community agencies, businesses and other groups, advisory committees, state and national groups. Ensures compliance with regulatory, corporate and federal agencies. Seeks/maintains degree program approval from licensing agencies, regional and national accreditation councils. Works with other Deans and the Vice President for Research to build interdisciplinary research teams and interdisciplinary programs. Reports directly to the Executive Vice President and Provost. Leads and manages A & S efforts in shaping a sustainable structure for the future as it expands degree offerings and further defines its organizational identity. Promotes the growth, retention, and successful graduation of students, while improving academic services in regards to future program development. Provides guidance and identifies resources for the retention and further development of faculty. Promote the strengthening of diversity and community engagement.

Demonstrates excellent communication skills, the ability to listen to new ideas and to respond in a timely manner to faculty, students and staff. Demonstrates leadership and management skills in working effectively with personnel conflicts and concerns. Demonstrates ability to administer in a solution-based, fair, thorough and thoughtful way.
Demonstrates ability to work independently and to establish and maintain a high degree of personal and departmental integrity and openness with students, faculty and staff. Ability to solve problems, focus on solutions and deliver difficult messages in professionally appropriate ways.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Earned terminal degree in a directly related discipline and tenured or tenurable at the rank of professor.
