Purpose of Classification:
Provides analytical support for routine budget projects. Advises administration and staff regarding available options and budgetary implications. Assists in preparation of operational budgets for departments; reviews expenditures to ensure conformance with budgetary provisions. Compiles data and prepares reports.
Standard Duties:
Assists in the preparation of legislative and operating budgets, revenue and expense projections, final reports, and other specialized financial reports and analyses. Provides direction and counsel to academic and staff personnel to assist them in understanding financial reports and data, in controlling their costs and budgets, and in fulfilling budgetary requirements. Assists in the analysis of proposed and final funding legislation. Assists in reconciling budgeted and actual revenues and expenditures for the state of New Mexico formal budget documents. May review departmental budgets for new positions and approve payroll documents availability of funding. Provides support to higher level budget analysts in development, implementation, and management of operational and capital budgets. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of budget procedures, including revenue and expenditure processes, and local, state, and federal regulations. Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control procedures.
Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management. Spreadsheet software skills to quantify and illustrate routine financial reports, comparisons, impacts, and/or projections. Fiscal analysis and accounting experience in budget preparation in a nonprofit university setting.
Ability to analyze budgetary expenditures for compliance with approved budget. Ability to complete moderately complex administrative paperwork.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Three (3) years of professional experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.
