Purpose of Classification:
Ensures compliance with federal and state regulations pertaining to research involving human subjects, the use and care of animals used in research, and biosafety. Coordinates the activities of the Institutional Review Board (IRB), the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), and the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC). Submits compliance reports to appropriate federal agencies. Responds to complaints and grievances.
Standard Duties:
Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations pertaining to research involving human subjects. Ensure compliance with federal regulations pertaining to the use and care of animals used in research. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional policies and regulations pertaining to research involving biological materials. Develop and provide training to faculty, staff, and students on such topics as the submission processes of applications for research projects involving human subjects and ethics in research. Respond to complaints and grievances. Submit required documentation to regulatory federal agencies.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Advanced knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, guidelines, and standards for the use of human subjects in biomedical research. Knowledge of the organization and operations of governmental human research review agencies. Knowledge and understanding of the role and function of the Institutional Review Board and other compliance units as they function in a medical academic and research setting. Knowledge and understanding of biomedical research concepts, principles, protocols, procedure, and terminology.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities. Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to provide credible guidance and consultation to researchers and practitioners within the field of expertise. Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Ability to plan, organize, implement, and administer complex recordkeeping systems and procedures. Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Master's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Five (5) years of professional experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.
