Purpose of Classification:
Provides or assists in the delivery of legal counsel and assistance to specified organizational units of the institution, under limited supervision. Performs and/or participates in the performance of both routine and complex legal and administrative work on a variety of legal issues.
Standard Duties:
Responds to legal issues, as assigned, and in doing so counsels institutional administrators in order to develop legal strategies and solutions. Drafts, reviews, and makes recommendation regarding contracts, legal documents, and policies and procedures. Prepares and/or reviews a wide variety of transactional documents. Utilizes administrative systems to manage legal and transactional documentation and assignments. Assists with regulatory compliance issues. Provides legal counsel to university committees and administrators as assigned. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of law governing public entities, real estate transactions, and contract law drafting. Knowledge and principles of legal research. Knowledge of current and developing legal issues and trends in area of real estate.
Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills including ability to drafct legal documents and deliver presentations. Negotiating skills.
Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Ability to develop and implement innovative legal strategies and solutions.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Juris Doctorate or Equivalent in hand by hire date.
   Experience- No previous experience required.
   Equivalency- None.
   Certifications/License- Admitted to New Mexico Bar or eligibility for a temporary license with continued employment contingent upon admission to New Mexico Bar within 1 year of hire.
