Purpose of Classification: | |
The Executive Director reports to the Executive Vice President and Provost with the primary responsibility of leading the development, implementation, and management of accreditation through collaborative efforts across the NMSU system. | |
Standard Duties: | |
The Executive Director, Accreditation will manage resources and functions within the office (evaluate personnel performance, approve budgets, fiscal oversight). Provide leadership and administration of Accreditation at all levels of the University System with external accreditors, state and national governmental agencies. The Executive Director directly supports all accreditation processes and relationships for the Las Cruces-Grants accreditation unit that includes the doctoral degree granting campus and NMSU-Grants community college. Activities directly supported includes HLC self-study and assurance processes, quality improvement processes (e.g. Quality Initiative recurring projects), as well as special opportunities (HLC academies). Provides oversight of accreditation activity at the other System independently accredited community colleges. Establishes and maintains connections with accrediting bodies. Responsible for successful accreditation capacity building system-wide. Supervises maintenance of NMSU System electronic resource room(s) and Higher Learning Commission electronic file transfers. Visits campuses for consultation to establish an institutional culture of quality assurance. Coordinates and reviews all college, discipline-and program- specific reports. | |
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: | |
University policies and procedures; State and Federal Laws as they relate to education, research, funding, personnel management among others; principles and practices of organization and administration; principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation. Broad familiarity with higher education and accreditation in the United States. | |
Strategic and tactical planning; complex problem analysis and resolution; public contact and relations; sensitive oral and written communication. | |
Ability to direct, evaluate, guide and lead the work of assigned personnel; develop and maintain effective working relationships; negotiate with others on proposals and programs as they relate to the academic success of the institution; use independent judgment and initiative; organize and direct activities; analyze and evaluate information | |
Minimum Qualifications: | |
Education- Ph. D., other doctoral degree or Terminal post-baccalaureate degree. Credential sufficient for tenure in an academic department at NMSU preferred. | |
Experience- Five (5) years of professional experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined. Faculty and administrative experience with accreditation at a research university, community college or other institution of higher education; comparable experience with a specialized accreditation agency, or as a staff member of a regional or specialized accreditation agency, or other comparable administrative experience in accreditation. | |
