Purpose of Classification:
Considered a top technical/specialist providing complex university level consultation and advisement in internal audits. Administers and maintains various related data management systems, and coordinates and facilitates implementation of university level audit programs and initiatives. Works independently under general direction with latitude for initiative and independent judgment. Errors made in this position can cause substantial expense and affect the accuracy and value of an audit.
Standard Duties:
As an internal audit expert, performs complex internal audits for the centralized internal audit function: operational, compliance, information technology, financial, and/or investigative internal audits. Collect and analyze data to detect deficient controls, duplicated effort, extravagance, fraud, or non-compliance with laws, regulations, and management policies. Prepare, analyze, and verify reports, financial information to assess financial condition and facilitate financial planning. Prepare detailed reports on audit findings and report findings to management about asset utilization, audit results, and recommend changes in operations and financial activities. Serve as team lead for major, multi-faceted and/or high profile internal audits; coordinating and leading the work of lower level auditors. Solves unique and complex problems that have a broad impact on the university. Consults with and advises university administrators, faculty, and staff on operational and administrative issues in accordance with IIA Standards and Code of Ethics. Develops audit plans and performs initial and follow-up audits in accordance with professional standards and ethics. Coordinates and interacts with administrators, faculty, and staff, and with external audit and law enforcement agencies, as needed; may be required to testify in court; may also be required to interact with university students and alumni, and with vendors doing business with the university. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Expert knowledge of auditing concepts and principles. Expert knowledge of court processes and legal documentation requirements. Expert knowledge of financial recordkeeping procedures, laws, regulations, and standards. Expert knowledge of budgeting, cost estimating, and fiscal management principles and procedures. Expert knowledge of university and/or public auditing policies, standards, and procedures. Knowledge of current changes and/or developments in applicable federal, state, local laws, and university policies and procedures.
Expert skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures. Employee development and performance management skills.
Ability to develop and implement audit plans and schedules. Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals. Ability to provide technical guidance and training to end users. Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to analyze and solve problems. Ability to provide legal depositions and testimony. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. Ability to work effectively with diverse populations. Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Eight (8) years of professional experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.
   Equivalency- Graduate degree in related field may substitute for 2 years experience.
