Purpose of Classification:
As a key member of the Athletic Director’s Executive Leadership team, the Deputy Athletic Director will assist the Athletic Director in providing strong vision, leadership, management, coordination and oversight in the areas of external or internal operations.
Standard Duties:
In conjunction with and in support of the Director of Athletics: provide leadership for the Intercollegiate Athletics Program which is consistent with the mission established by the University and the conference; manage and oversee Athletics personnel either directly or through reporting relationships to foster an environment of success, teamwork and professionalism; ensure an environment that promotes the Athletics Program, as well as, student-athlete health and welfare, a commitment to strong character and academic values; maintain appropriate policies, procedures and practices to ensure compliance in all aspects of the Intercollegiate Athletics Program, specifically with respect to University policies and procedures; NCAA and conference rules and regulations; and federal and state law, including Title IX. Develop and maintain strategic plans. Serve as an advisor to the Director of Athletics on important matters concerning the Athletics Department, the University, the conference and the NCAA.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of NMSU policies and procedures; NCAA rules and regulations; and facilities management, capital projects, and community relations. Knowledge of contracting, negotiating and change management.
Experience in strategic planning and execution; business operations; and fiscal management.
Ability to facilitate and participate in group meetings through a strong presence to include professional written communications, verbal communications and interpersonal skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- A bachelor's degree
   Experience- Eight (8) years of business/management experience
   Equivalency- Equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
