Purpose of Classification:
Oversee and coordinate medical coverage of student athletes, sports medicine facility development and maintenance, and athletic health care administration. Responsible for compliance with federal and state laws and athletic organization rules and guideline regarding athletic health care.
Standard Duties:
Supervise staff, develop and implement operational policies, direct sports medicine facility operation, collect and secure medical records. Assign and direct sports medicine coverage, coordinate medical referral and use of medical providers, daily care of injuries, and act as liaison between student athletes, coaches, and medical providers. Supervise hiring of staff, review staff performance, direct and analyze use of athletic training budget. Supervise and direct students giving medical care of student athletes in the clinical setting. Follow all laws, regulations, and guidelines, acquire knowledge of current practices in the profession, and maintain all certifications required of the profession.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of medical insurance claims procedures and documentation. Knowledge of physical therapy theory and practice.
Records maintenance skills.
Ability to design and implement effective fitness, nutrition, and conditioning programs for college-level athletes. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to supervise and train assigned staff. Ability to fit, adjust and/or modify a range of orthotic and body protection devices. Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures. Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Five (5) years of experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.
   Equivalency- None
   Certifications/License- TA certified or working towards certification. CPR/First Aid Certified.
