Purpose of Classification:
Responsible for the coordination, evaluation, selection, and coaching of cheer team members. The Head Coach will organize, develop, and implement the NMSU Cheerleading Program, which will include (but not limited to): game preparation, training, scheduling, coordination of travel logistics for all competitions, administrative requirements, practices, fundraisers, public appearances, and overall supervision of the program.
Standard Duties:
Organizes, prepares, and conducts individual and team practices, training and competitions. Supervises cheerleading performance during games and practice sessions. Maintains and complete records as instructed by administration. Directs all aspects, areas and components of the sports team. Coordinates all strategic aspects of the specific sports program. Represents sports program to various institutional programs and externally to media, government agencies, funding agencies, students, parents, and the general public. Manages all daily operations and coordinates all administration facets of the specific sports program. Oversees all aspects of the financial operation of the specific sports program. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge and understanding of AACCA safety and coaching guidelines; strong organizational and communication skills; knowledge of cheer technique and choreography. Knowledge of financial/business analysis techniques.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Skill in budget preparation and management.
Ability to recognize and respond to motivational needs of student athletes and crowds. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments. Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree
   Experience- Three (3) years of experience related to the standard duties as outlined.
