Purpose of Classification:
Plans and directs the activities of the men's tennis team. Directs conditioning of student athletes to achieve maximum athletic performance, assesses players' skills and assigns team positions, evaluates own and opposition team capabilities to determine game strategy, coaches or directs coaches to instruct players in techniques of game, and directs recruitment and retention of student athletes.
Standard Duties:
Organizes, prepares, and conducts individual and team practices, training and competition. Recruits student-athletes in accordance with NCAA rules and regulations through scouting, attending tournaments, and home visits. Directs all aspects, areas and components of the sports team. Coordinates all strategic aspects of the specific sports program. Represents sports program to various institutional programs and externally to media, government agencies, funding agencies, students, parents, and the general public. Manages all daily operations and coordinates all administration facets of the specific sports program. Oversees all aspects of the financial operation of the specific sports program. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the specified sports program. Knowledge of athletic recruitment methods and techniques. Knowledge of financial/business analysis techniques. Knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes. Skill in budget preparation and management.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. Ability to lead and guide Division I student-athletes in area of specialty. Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments. Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree
   Experience- Five (5) years of experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.
