Purpose of Classification:
Responsible for marketing and promotions, development and licensing programs, and contract oversight relative to broadcasting, sponsorship and internet partners. May also have additional management responsibilities.
Standard Duties:
Directs and oversees all marketing activities and initiatives for the department; oversees and coordinates the promotion of the department's various intercollegiate athletic programs. Develops and implements comprehensive publicity, marketing, and promotional strategies, policies, and initiatives for the organization. Oversees all media relations for the department; develops and implements departmental public relations strategies and policies. Oversees all aspects of game management for the department's intercollegiate team sports programs; organizes administers, and promotes all sporting and special events; oversees and monitors revenues and expenses for game management. Oversees and coordinates all athletic event ticketing services; oversees and coordinates group and season ticket sales. Serves as principal department liaison with contracted external marketing firms. Oversees all aspects of licensing and branding of athletics promotional products and merchandise. Develops strategies and promotional initiatives designed to increase program revenue and generate enthusiasm among supporters of athletics, alumni, and/or alumni letterman. Oversees and monitors all fiscal and administrative affairs for the unit; oversees the supervision of unit staff, evaluates staff performance, and makes recommendations for personnel actions. Establishes and implements long- and short-range departmental goals, objectives, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates program effectiveness; effects changes required for improvement. Represents the department and its programs to various institutional divisions as well as to the media, student-athletes and their parents, external agencies, and the general public. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of a range of major and minor intercollegiate athletics activities and programs. Knowledge of marketing strategies, processes, and available resources. Knowledge of public relations principles and practices. Knowledge and understanding of product branding principles, methods, and techniques. Knowledge of state and federal laws, regulations, and guidelines for the administration of a ticketing operation. Knowledge of all operational and administrative aspects of managing NCAA Division I team sports games. Knowledge and understanding of NCAA and MWC compliance standards and reporting requirements. Knowledge and understanding of the operational challenges associated with managing an NCAA Division I team sports program. Knowledge of a variety of intercollegiate sports and associated NCAA rules and regulations.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures. Demonstrated skill in the management and coordination of an athletics event ticketing service. Employee development and performance management skills. Skills in budget preparation and fiscal management. Program planning and leadership skills.
Ability to develop and deliver presentations. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate media activities and special events. Ability to utilize advertising and/or sales promotion techniques. Ability to plan, develop, and implement marketing strategies and programs. Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Five (5) years of experience related to the standard duties as outlined.
