Purpose of Classification:
Analyzes performance and instructs student athletes in strategies and techniques to prepare them for athletic competition; observes players while they perform to determine need for individual or team improvement; and coaches players individually or in groups, demonstrating techniques.
Standard Duties:
Assist in organizing, scheduling and attendance of practices. Assist in the evaluation of the cheerleaders strengths and deficiencies. Assist in guiding and coaching the activities of the mascot. Assist in supervision of cheerleaders while representing NMSU at athletic events and other campus and community related events. Assist in the coordination of fundraising efforts. Assist with the preparation of competitions including travel, lodging and other expenses. Manage the inventory of uniforms and equipment. Responsible for the return of equipment and supplies. Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge and understanding of American Association Cheerleading Coaches & Administrators (AACCA) safety and coaching guidelines. Knowledge of cheer technique and choreography.
Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, strong organizational skills. Skilled in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with students, staff, administrators and the general public.
Ability to recognize and respond to motivational needs of student athletes and crowds. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree
   Experience- Two (2) years of experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.
   Equivalency- Substantial directly related experience may substitute for degree required.
   Certifications/License- American Association Cheerleading Coaches & Administrators (AACCA) within 6 months of hire.
