Purpose of Classification:
Manage the department's flight and business operations and act as the primary pilot-in-command of University aircraft. Ensure the safe and efficient operation of University aircraft. Advise administration on aviation issues. Promote the flight department to ensure maximum utilization of University aircraft. Explore new opportunities and collaborations which can benefit from the use of University aircraft. Ensure that aircraft are properly maintained in airworthy condition and all operations are in regulatory compliance.
Standard Duties:
Oversee the supervision of personnel which includes: work allocation, training, promotion and enforcement of internal procedures and controls and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance. Serve as Pilot-in-Command of Beechcraft King Air E90 Aero Commander 500B and additional types as assigned to the Flight Department. Determine adequate staffing requirements, including flight crews to ensure the continued efficient operation of the department. Aircraft servicing, line maintenance, test flights, ferry flights, coordinating scheduled and unscheduled maintenance while minimizing down time. Prepare annual budget and cost analysis of flight department aircraft. Aircraft and crew scheduling, assisting departments in logistical/passenger handling issues when scheduling departmental aircraft. Ensure the standardization, training, proficiency and currency of all crew members. Maintain ground support equipment and vehicles assigned to the flight department. Maintain the departmental database, scheduling calendar, billing and invoicing, aircraft maintenance records, property inventory and all other departmental records. Procurement of all parts, supplies, equipment, galley supplies, fuel/oil, etc. required by the department. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
University and department policies and procedures; principles and practices of organization and administration; principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation; Federal Aviation Regulations Parts 1, 61, 91 and 135.
Short- and long-range planning; problem analysis and resolution; report preparation and presentation; public contact and relations; oral and written communication; computer hardware and software to include Microsoft Access.
Direct, evaluate, train, and supervise the work of assigned personnel; develop and maintain effective working relationships; maintain accurate and orderly records; use independent judgment and initiative; organize and direct activities; analyze and evaluate information.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Eight (8) years of increasingly progressive management experience in one or more areas that report to this position.
   Equivalency- Any equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience as approved by Human Resource Services.
   Certifications/License- FAA issued commercial pilot's license.Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with Multi Engine Land rating.
