Purpose of Classification:
Under general supervision provides general patient care and basic patient education. Performs duties which indirectly support patient care such as scheduling, recordkeeping, and maintaining supplies inventories.
Standard Duties:
Schedules and coordinates paperwork for patient/medical appointments. Assists medical providers, registered nurses, and therapists with examinations, treatments, special tests, and procedures. Obtain patient medical history, vital signs, chart preparation, medication dosage and frequency, patient allergens and assist with medical examinations. Records and reports observed symptoms, reactions, treatments, and changes in the patients’ conditions. Administers medications and performs routine specialized procedures, such as venipuncture and sterile dressing changes under established protocols. Maintains and stocks inventory of office and/or clinical supplies, as appropriate to the position. Educates patients regarding health-related issues. Coordinates labeling, delivery, and receipt of laboratory specimens and results; provides information and coordinates follow-up visits regarding laboratory results. Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control. Knowledge of clinical documentation. Knowledge of patient evaluation and triage procedures. Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements. Knowledge of patient care charts and patient histories. Knowledge of appropriate procedures and standards for the administration of medications and patient care aids. Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
Skill in performing clinical and medical procedures.
Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards. Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress. Ability to maintain calendars and schedule appointments. Ability to educate patients as to the nature of disease and to provide instruction on proper care and treatment. Ability to safely lift, and physically manipulate patients. Ability to prepare and process laboratory samples using established protocols.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Medical Assistant (CMA) or Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) Certification.
   Experience- One (1) year of experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.
   Equivalency- Completion of a post-secondary degree may substitute for years of experience or any equivalent combination of education or experience may substitute for the CMA or CNA certification.
