Purpose of Classification:
Responsible for the supervision of the practitioner staff and ancillary clinical staff (lab, pharmacy and nursing) for the Student Health Center and oversees the provision of quality medical care. The Medical Director is the liaison between the practitioner staff and the Director.
Standard Duties:
Responsible for the administrative oversight of the practitioner/ancillary staff. Serve on university and peer review committees. Provides and manages direct patient care, including physical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses and treatment for a specified patient population. Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions. Refers patients to specialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate. Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of medical care. Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements. Knowledge of community medical diagnostic and patient care services in area of medical expertise. Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aids and ability to prescribe dosages and instruct patients in correct usage. Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment in area of expertise.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress. Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Licensed Physician
   Experience- Five (5) years of professional experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.
   Equivalency- None
   Certifications/License- New Mexico License to practice medicine, DEA and New Mexico controlled substance license, CPR license.
