Purpose of Classification:
Nurse Practitioner or Physicians Assistant will provide independent primary care in a variety of clinical settings to the NMSU staff, faculty, and student populations of non-emergency patients. Provides consultation and advice to others as a highly-specialized practitioner.
Standard Duties:
Performs medical examinations and evaluations, diagnoses, treatment, follow-up, consultation, and health education. Obtains patient histories and develops patient care charts, ensuring completeness and accuracy. Provides health education to students, families, and/or community health practitioners and groups, within area of specialty. Administers a specific health care activity, as appropriate. Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of medical care. Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements. Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures. Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aids and ability to prescribe dosages and instruct patients in correct usage. Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements. Knowledge of patient care charts and patient histories. Knowledge of community medical diagnostic and patient care services in area of medical expertise. Knowledge of health education theory and practice.
Effective verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards. Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress. Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards. Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Master's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Two (2) years of professional experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.
   Equivalency- None
   Certifications/License- Licensed as a CNP or PA in the State of New Mexico
