Purpose of Classification: | |
Schedules, leads, and coordinates the day-to-day activities of the immunization room, ensuring adherence to appropriate federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines, University policies, and accepted nursing protocols and procedures. Coordinates services with other patient care units in the clinic, international programs on campus, and other outreach activities. Provides direct nursing services in the immunization room and patient care areas in the clinic as appropriate. Reports to the Nurse Supervisor. | |
Standard Duties: | |
Monitors and coordinates the daily patient care activities of the unit; schedules patients to ensure full coverage of patient care needs at all times and to ensure effective patient services. Leads, guides, and trains employees performing related work. Oversees and provides direct nursing evaluation and/or other related care and consultation to patients as required. Coordinates services with other patient care units and international programs to set up specialty clinics such as tuberculosis clearance. Coordinate outreach events such as travel information classes, orientation for special programs and health events, and campus flu shot clinics. Maintains communication with allied services and maintains community liaison as appropriate. Oversees quality assurance activities and compliance to operational standards. Participates in program development and in development and implementation of operating policy and procedure. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by Nurse Supervisor. Coordinates with Pharmacy regarding vaccination stocking, storage, shortages, recalls, logs etc. Maintains entry of vaccinations on the state registry (NMSIIS). Appropriately assess patients for vaccines including those that may not provide full medical history or have chronic health conditions. Refer patients for clearance before vaccinations are given due to potential health risk, if necessary. Follow recommendations from Shoreland Travax for country specific requirements. Use resources such as the CDC, VIS sheets, and Epidemiology and Prevention of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases. Maintain monthly stats (number of vaccines given, adverse reactions, patient visits, phone calls, etc.). | |
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: | |
Knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements and standards. Knowledge of the specific day-to-day needs of patients within the designated area of medical specialty. | |
Advanced, specialized nursing skills as appropriate to the nature of medical activity. Organizing and coordinating skills. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively work with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community | |
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures. Ability to provide professional guidance, instruction, and leadership to nursing and related patient care staff. Ability to coordinate quality assurance programs in area of specialty. | |
Minimum Qualifications: | |
Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field. | |
Experience- One year of professional experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined | |

Certifications/License- CPR Certified.State of New Mexico Licensed Registered Nurse or licensure pending as documented by temporary licensure | |
