Purpose of Classification:
Directs and oversees the management of all aspects of the University's golf courses, to include course operations, golf concessions, turf and equipment maintenance, and retail facilities.
Standard Duties:
Directs and oversees all aspects of the operation of the NMSU Golf Course to include all pro shop operations, course supervision, course maintenance, course marketing, and customer relations. Establishes and implements short- and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness, and effects changes required for improvement. Interacts with students, faculty, staff, alumni, community members, and visitors to the golf courses to ensure customer satisfaction. Designs, establishes, and maintains an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the organization's goals and objectives; oversees recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of unit staff. Develops and manages annual budgets for the organization and performs periodic cost and productivity analyses. Plans, develops, and implements strategies for generating resources and/or revenues for the organization. Oversees the coordination and organization of special promotional activities such as local, regional, and national golf tournaments. Represents the university to various institutional divisions as well as externally to media, government agencies, funding agencies, students and their parents, and/or the general public. Recommends, participates in the development of and establishes University policies and procedures; may serve on University planning and policy making committees. Establishes and maintains professional relationships with state, regional, and national golf organizations. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise. Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of golf course management. Knowledge of Federal, State, and local regulations for the operation of all aspects of a golf course complex. Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures. Knowledge of financial/business analysis techniques. Knowledge of faculty and/or staff hiring procedures.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management. Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities. Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures. Employee development and performance management skills. Effective written and oral communication skills.
Ability to identify and secure alternative funding/revenue sources. Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and facilitate major golf tournament events. Ability to plan, organize, and implement promotional programs and events.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Eight (8) years of increasingly progressive management experience in one or more areas that report to this position.
