Purpose of Classification:
Under limited supervision, manages the business operations and associated amenities of an 18-hole golf course complex. Serves as the PGA professional for the course. Organizes and coordinates the course's day-to-day golf activities, and facilitates NCAA and/or professional championship tournaments and other special golfing events. Establishes and maintains retail inventories and supplies, and ensures the maintenance and security of associated facilities and equipment.
Standard Duties:
Manages the daily business operations and financial activities of the golf course.Oversees the supervision of personnel, which includes work allocation, training, promotion and enforcement of internal procedures and controls, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance Manages and coordinates: retail operations, food services, and customer amenities, the procurement and inventory control of retail merchandise, the provision of customer service, cash management, and associated administrative activities. Plans, organizes, and oversees the operation, maintenance, and security of a large, multiple-facility, multipurpose services complex, to include facilities, equipment, and supplies;Participates in tournament and events planning, and coordinates catering and associated amenities for golfing events. Provides professional advice and service to clients of the course, and acts as a professional resource in the technical aspect of the game. Develops annual operating budgets and provides fiscal direction. Participates in development, implementation and maintenance of policies, objectives, short-and long-range planning; develops and implements projects and programs to assist in accomplishment of established goals. Develops and implements systems and processes to establish and maintain records for the operating unit. Ensures that all operations are carried out in accordance with federal, state, and local retail, food services, and associated regulations, guidelines, and standards; ensures that golf activities are in compliance with University policy provisions and PGA/NCAA regulations. Represents the organization at various meetings and committees; promotes existing and new programs. Establishes a positive relationship with the NMSU PGM Director, thus giving the NMSU Golf Course the opportunity to recruit the highest quality PGM Interns as employees. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of building and facilities maintenance, safety and security. Knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of golf course operations as applied to a major University. Knowledge of business management practices. Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations for the operation of a retail establishment. Knowledge of all aspects of golfing retail operations, food services, and provision of associated amenities. Knowledge of the facilities and services requirements of a major championship golf course. Knowledge of PGA and NCAA golfing regulations, guidelines, and tournament requirements. Knowledge of special events planning and catering procedures. Knowledge of the facilities and amenities requirements of major PGA and NCAA-sponsored golf tournaments. Knowledge of budgeting, cost estimating, and fiscal management principles and procedures. Knowledge of faculty and/or staff hiring procedures.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Skill in the use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment. Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures. Professional golfing skills, and knowledge of all aspects of the game. Employee development and performance management skills.
Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures. Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals. Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Three (3) years of experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.
