Purpose of Classification:
Provides general patient care and basic patient education. Performs duties which indirectly support patient care such as scheduling, recordkeeping, and maintaining supplies inventories.
Standard Duties:
Schedules and coordinates paperwork for patient/doctor appointments. Assists doctors, registered nurses, and therapists with examinations, treatments, special tests, and procedures. Reviews patient charts, checks patients in, obtains and records patients' weight, blood pressure, urine samples, blood samples, and medical history, and assesses reasons for patient visits. Records and reports observed symptoms, reactions, treatments, and changes in the patients' conditions. Administers medications; applies sterile dressings. Maintains and stocks inventory of office and/or clinical supplies, as appropriate to the position. Educates patients regarding health-related issues. Coordinates labeling, delivery, and receipt of laboratory specimens and results; provides information and coordinates follow-up visits regarding laboratory results. Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control. Knowledge of clinical documentation. Knowledge of patient evaluation and triage procedures. Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements. Knowledge of patient care charts and patient histories. Knowledge of appropriate procedures and standards for the administration of medications and patient care aids.
Skill in performing clinical and medical procedures.
Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards. Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress. Ability to maintain calendars and schedule appointments. Ability to educate patients and/or families as to the nature of disease and to provide instruction on proper care and treatment. Ability to safely lift, and physically manipulate patients. Ability to prepare and process laboratory samples using established protocols.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Vocational/Technical certificate
   Experience- No previous work experience required.
   Equivalency-
   Certifications/License- State of New Mexico Licensed Practical Nurse.
