Purpose of Classification:
Responsible for one or several broad-based areas within Academic Affairs under the direction of the Executive Vice President and Provost.
Standard Duties:
Reports directly to the Executive Vice President and Provost; assists in achieving the institution's major goals established by the President and Board of Regents; assist the Executive Vice President and Provost in providing administrative leadership and organization for all the major components of the institution; assist in monitoring academic programs in accordance with state/national regulations; assist in promoting the universities strategic plan, diversity initiatives, and student goals. This is an internal search in that only current regular faculty/administrators from the NMSU system will be considered. The individual chosen will serve no more than three years and will then return to their current position. The position is offered to allow the selected individual the opportunity to gain relevant university administrative experience as well as serve the university community.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
University policies and procedures; State and Federal Laws as they relate to education, research, funding, personnel management among others; principles and practices of organization and administration; principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation.
Strategic and tactical planning; complex problem analysis and resolution; public contact and relations; sensitive oral and written communication.
Direct, evaluate, guide and lead the work of assigned personnel; develop and maintain effective working relationships; negotiate with others on proposals and programs as they relate to the academic success of the institution; use independent judgment and initiative; organize and direct activities; analyze and evaluate information.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Terminal degree in a related field.
   Experience- Five (5) years of professional experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.
