Purpose of Classification:
Directs the academic programs of the institution. Overall responsibilities typically include academic planning, instruction, research, extension and outreach and coordination of interdepartmental affairs (e.g. Faculty P&T, diversity, International and Border Programs, assessment, accreditation, and library activities).
Standard Duties:
Provides administrative leadership and organization for all the academic components of the University and guides academic, research, and outreach programs in accordance with the University’s Strategic plan. Works directly and closely with the deans and development team to identify new sources of revenue to support existing programs, and to create and fund new programs, which are in keeping with the mission of the University. Responsible for the development, implementation, and assessment of the University’s programs and services that promote diversity, student development and enhance student life on the University campus. Responsible for all faculty hires and motivating a university-wide team at all levels, to deepen the understanding and appreciation of the University’s core values, and to demonstrate appropriate responsiveness to the needs and concerns of students, faculty, and staff.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
University policies and procedures; State and Federal Laws as they relate to education, research, funding, personnel management among others; principles and practices of organization and administration; principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation.
Strategic and tactical planning; complex problem analysis and resolution; public contact and relations; sensitive oral and written communication.
Direct, evaluate, guide and lead the work of assigned personnel; develop and maintain effective working relationships; negotiate with others on proposals and programs as they relate to the academic success of the institution; use independent judgment and initiative; organize and direct activities; analyze and evaluate information.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Terminal degree in a related field.
   Experience- Ten (10) years of increasingly progressive management experience within a large, diverse, research university environment, and experience with oversight of faculty, academic, scholarly research, student success and related initiatives.
