Purpose of Classification:
Responsible for the direction of student services and student life programs. Overall responsibilities typically include student conduct, counseling and testing, career development and placement, student housing, student union, campus/student activity, minority student support program, residence life and related functions.
Standard Duties:
Interacts with the university community and the public regarding university student affairs. Participates with other senior staff of the university in institutional planning, policy development, and problem solving. Develops and carries out the mission statement of the student services and formulates goals and objectives for the division in accordance with the goals and purposes of the university. Develops, implements, administers, and evaluates programs, policies, and budgets necessary to accomplish the mission, goals, and objectives of the division. Implements and enforces policies and regulations of the university which pertain to campus life and to the student services. Coordinates, manages, and disseminates data on student characteristics, interests, and needs, which may serve as the basis for university policy development and planning initiatives. Advises senior management and the faculty on issues relating to student services. Participates in regional and national professional associations in the area of student affairs. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of the goals, objectives, structure and operations of a major public university. Knowledge of equal opportunity and affirmative action programs. Knowledge of organizational development theory and practices. Knowledge of student recruitment and retention issues. Knowledge of cost analysis techniques.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management. Program planning and implementation skills. Strategic planning skills.
Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals. Ability to plan and evaluate programs.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Doctorate degree in related field,.
   Experience- Ten (10) years of increasingly progressive management experience in one or more areas that report to this position.
