Purpose of Classification: | |
Responsible for creating partnerships that link university, state and industry resources to address economic development needs. Reporting to the Executive Vice President and Provost, this position is responsible for coordinating all aspects of University programs and operations, including academic and administrative functions, relating to Economic Development, to achieve specific outcomes for the University such as job creation and revenue generation. | |
Standard Duties: | |
Develops and implements long range plans, near term operating practices and public policy initiatives to further entrepreneurship, industry collaboration, technology commercialization and technology-based economic development endeavors throughout the State as fostered by the University. Promotes and coordinates the University's role as a resource for economic development leading community engagement, communications and marketing activities that demonstrate the University's economic development contributions and attract industry collaboration and funding. Identifies specific gaps in University programs based on industry demands and works with deans and administrators to develop, fund and implement initiatives in response to demand including programs that build research expertise in areas of keen interest to industry. Convenes a standing campus-wide committee responsible for identifying and addressing policy and programmatic issues impacting economic development. Provides leadership to build strategic alliances with industry and state agencies targeted to facilities, research, workforce development and service programs responsive to economic development needs of the university. Collaborates closely with key public officials engaged in economic issues. Responsible for all major personnel decisions including staffing, training, and evaluation of employees within the division. | |
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: | |
Knowledge and understanding of principles, procedures, regulations, and standards applicable to the job. Understanding of the University's mission, vision and goals. Working knowledge of economic development operations. Knowledge of the operation of large complex organizations, or educational or governmental systems. Knowledge of federal research, foundation, and grant funding programs and processes. Knowledge of and commitment to diversity and inclusivity as critical components of organizational success. | |
Excellent communication skills, ability to listen to new ideas and to respond in a timely manner to faculty, students and staff. Demonstrated skill in working effectively with personnel conflicts and concerns. Demonstrated ability to administer in a fair, thorough and thoughtful way. | |

Minimum Qualifications: | |
Education- An earned Master's degree in Public Administration, Economic Development, Urban Planning or a closely related field; doctorate preferred. | |
Experience- Eight (8) years of increasingly progressive management experience in one or more areas that report to this position | |
