Purpose of Classification:
The director of corporate and foundation relations is responsible for establishing priorities, strategies and tactics for the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of gifts from corporations, corporate foundations, and private foundations in support of the major gift fund-raising goals of the New Mexico State University Foundation. This position reports to the Associate Vice President for Advancement.
Standard Duties:
Work closely with the vice president and associate vice president for advancement to identify and establish policies and plans which will result in effective and efficient corporate and foundation fund-raising programs; Provide focus and direction to corporate and foundation giving programs at the New Mexico State University; Initiate, establish, and maintain relationships with corporations and foundations; Serve as primary contact for development personnel regarding fund-raising policies and procedures related to corporate and foundation giving; Oversee corporate and corporate foundation record maintenance; Provide technical support and gift planning expertise for development staff assisting them with the cultivation and solicitation of corporate and foundation gifts and accompany development personnel on corporate and foundation solicitations as appropriate; Work directly with the academic community to identify current programs in need of private support; Hire, train, manage, and supervise employees under your direction; Monitor legislative changes that affect corporate and foundation giving and identify emerging national issues, trends, and policies that may create additional opportunities in giving; Develop and monitor approved departmental budget; Participate in the establishment of personal and departmental goals and objectives in support of the mission and goals of the New Mexico State University Foundation; and Other special projects and initiatives as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Working knowledge in a Windows environment using Microsoft applications. Knowledge of fundraising database applications. Knowledge of communications and public relations techniques.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Management experience with a capacity to inspire cooperation and participation. Ability to relate well to the academic community.
Ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and foster long-term relationships.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Eight (8) years of fundraising experience with demonstrated history of success.
