Purpose of Classification:
Directs and coordinates the development and fundraising activities of NMSU and its affiliated programs. Integrates individual, corporate and foundation development and fundraising programs into the University’s overall Development function, ensuring the achievement of maximum program synergy and consistency of goals, objectives, and approach. Collaboratively directs the planning of the University’s comprehensive campaign. Coordinates all policy and practices relating to carrying out NMSU development functions.
Standard Duties:
Directs, coordinates, and evaluates all fundraising across the NMSU campuses; provides leadership and guidance to the University community to ensure that individual, corporate and foundation fundraising efforts are integrated and consistent with the University’s overall mission, goals, and objectives. Establishes and implements development policies, goal and objectives, strategic plans, and operating procedures. Coordinates the implementation of development policy to provide overall consistency in policy planning and application. Coordinates prospect identification, solicitation, and stewardship activities to individuals, corporations, foundations, and other entities to include but not limited to planned giving, capital needs, and endowments. Designs, establishes, and maintains an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the organization’s goals and objectives; Oversees the supervision of personnel, which includes: work allocation and goals, training, promotion and enforcement of internal procedures and controls and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance. Oversees the overall operations of unit(s) reporting to this position. Represents the University to various institutional divisions as well as externally to governmental agencies, vendors, students and their parents, and the general public. Develops and manages annual budgets for the organization and performs periodic cost and productivity analyses. Creates and initiates effective marketing activities for promoting planned giving, capital needs, endowments, and other long-range funding activities. Assumes responsibility for overall coordination and day-to-day execution of campaigns. Recommends and participates in the development of University policies and procedures; may serve on University planning and policy-making committees. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures. Knowledge of educational fundraising principles, methods, and techniques. Knowledge of financial/business analysis techniques. Demonstrated success in planning and executing complex multi-year, multi-million dollar development programs and/or campaigns. Knowledge of best practices and current trending within the development arena. Knowledge of faculty and/or staff hiring procedures.
Outstanding interpersonal and community relations skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively within a diverse community. Employee development and performance management skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management. Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. Ability to develop and implement comprehensive marketing goals, strategies, and plans. Ability to establish, direct, and maintain an integrated and cohesive institutional development and alumni relations function. Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart information to a range of clientele and/or media sources. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Eight (8) years of professional experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.
