Purpose of Classification:
Maintains contact with legislature and the governor's office; assists director in the development, processing and tracking of legislation; assesses problems or issues, in the director's absence, assists or directs constituents, university entities or legislators in the resolution of problems; liaison with other departments, colleges and the public, representing the director when requested. Manages administrative functions of the Santa Fe office.
Standard Duties:
Maintains contact with legislative community of legislators, legislative bodies, and the governor's office; assists director in the development, processing and tracking of legislation. Assesses problems, issues and, in the director's absence, assists/directs constituents, university entities or legislators in resolving problems; liaison with other departments, colleges and the public, representing the director when requested. Provides administrative and legislative support so that director may make maximum effective use of his time. Disseminates information to professional groups, individuals and other; organizes groups, represents director, and makes presentations to various groups. As a registered lobbyist for NMSU, may be called upon to make presentations to legislators, legislative committees and constituents groups to guide or otherwise influence the passage of legislation affecting the university. In this capacity, may work in conjunction with the director, university faculty and staff, or independently. Prepares and files lobbyist reports for director and deputy director when required; Assists in arranging for legislative meetings held on the NMSU campus and elsewhere. Prepares and files lobbyist reports for director and deputy director when required. Assists with special projects; assists in preparing and upkeep of budgets, agendas, records, reports, books, statistical data, and policy information. Manages all administrative operations of Santa Fe office. Handles confidential correspondence, copies/distributes director's correspondence and reports, travel, telephone calls, emails, faxes, on-line computer searches, etc. Maintains awareness of university/departmental policies; researches, recommends, develops, and implements new office procedures; Reviews updated policies and procedures as needed. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and understanding of principles, procedures, regulations, and standards applicable to the job. Understanding of the University's mission, vision and goals.

Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Three (3) years of professional experience related to the standard duties as outlined.
