Purpose of Classification:
Create a comprehensive stewardship plan for New Mexico State University. Plan should include colleges, units, President and Provost Offices and community colleges. Oversee and supervise the Stewardship and Volunteer Engagement team. Hire, evaluate and build morale amongst the Stewardship and Volunteer Engagement team. Provide goals and assignments. Manage teams and tasks as it relates to stewardship, events, community relations, board relations and communications. Manage a stewardship portfolio of donors. Work with the volunteers and community members to engage them at NMSU.
Standard Duties:
Create a comprehensive stewardship plan for New Mexico State University. Plan should include colleges, units, President and Provost Offices and community colleges. Currently, the University does not have real annual and/or lifetime recognition levels. This position should come forth with a plan to develop these levels and how we stewards donors based on those levels. The plan should also be developed based on donor type. Oversee the gift agreement process to ensure that the correct language is included, appropriate fees are included, information that needs to be revealed is clear and understandable and the process moves in a timely fashion. Develop individualized stewardship plans for donors of 500k or more to include but not limited to access to President, Provost and/or other University leaders, appropriate press releases, annual reports from central and/or college/units, updates on projects that are in process (ie facilities that donors are assisting with building and/or renovation) and individual meetings with students and/or staff in which the donor has supported. Develop tools, events, newsletters that help donors to understand the impact of their dollars to the University. Pair students and donors to interact and get to know those students that the donor supports. Create recognition events to appropriately recognize annual, major and lifetime donors to NMSU (students, parents, faculty/staff, corporations and foundations, alumni and friends). Work with donor situations that are extremely sensitive but need to be handled with care. Ensure that relationship continues to build with the donor and they feel a part of New Mexico State University. Manage a stewardship portfolio of donors who have given their ultimate gift to the University and/or not assigned to other development officers. Most donors who have reached their maximum giving to NMSU will be moved to the stewardship portfolio and out of the development officer portfolio. Minimum of 50 visits annually. Continue building relationships with donors and provide information as it relates to the impact or dollars. Take students or faculty to meet donors who have supported via scholarships or supported research and/or programs. Provide appropriate organizational updates. Oversee and supervise the Stewardship and Volunteer Engagement team. Hire, evaluate and build morale amongst the Stewardship and Volunteer Engagement team. Provide goals and assignments. Manage teams and tasks as it relates to stewardship, events, community relations, board relations and communications. Works closely with Vice President to appropriately steward Foundation and Alumni boards. Develops position descriptions for board members to ensure they feel engaged with the University. Works to develop appropriate agendas and interactions at board meetings. Interacts with the community to draw community closer to the University. Participates on specific community boards, activities and events as well as determine others who need to be involved from the University to provide a University presence in the community. Work with deans and department heads to identify programs open to the public and advertise via stewardship and other advancement vehicles. And other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Understands the Advancement process and can work cohesively with Advancement staff, deans, faculty and staff and others.
Requires excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work with high level donors who have given $500,000 or more. Ability to work with University leaders, volunteer leaders and community leaders. Ability to be confidential, trustworthy and honest. Ability to work nights and weekends. Ability to travel.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor’s Degree in related field
   Experience- Eight (8) years of experience working with multiple constituencies to include corporations and foundations, parents, alumni, students, faculty and staff and/or students.
