Purpose of Classification:
Responsible for supporting media and marketing related communications needs of designated business groups and departments. Counsels businesses in developing and executing communications programs that may include newswriting, product advertising, online presence and social media strategies.
Standard Duties:
Plans, recruits, trains, coordinates, and supervises advertising sales staff to generate budgeted revenue for the department. Plans and develops strategies to market to potential advertisers on a local, regional, and national basis. Oversees and coordinates an advertising and production staff responsible for all phases of ad production; oversees daily advertising print production, and resolves printing, operational, and equipment problems and failures. Responds to inquiries and researches and resolves problems related to transactions handled by the unit; serves as liaison with other constituencies in the resolution of day-to-day administrative and operational issues. Develops or assists with the development and implementation of policies and procedures consistent with those of the organization to ensure efficient and safe operation of the unit. Oversees all facets of the daily operations of the organizational unit, ensuring compliance with the University, state, and federal laws, policies, and regulations. Interacts and serves as liaison with advertising clients; issues adjustments to clients, and plans and carries out sales development and public relations activities, as appropriate. Represents the organization at various community and/or business meetings, committees, and task forces; promotes existing and new programs and/or policies. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge and understanding of media and journalism principles, procedures, regulations, and standards. Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures. Knowledge of the college newspaper advertising market. Knowledge of marketing strategies, processes, and available resources. Knowledge of newspaper advertising production principles, methods, techniques, procedures, facilities, and equipment.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions. Ability to assess operational requirements and to plan and organize work flow patterns and schedules.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- One (1) year of experience related to the standard duties as outlined.
