Purpose of Classification:
Assists in the writing of brochures and articles for publication and/or technical/scientific material for manuals or journals. Under close supervision, may assist in aspects of proposal preparation and provide other technical assistance in manuscript writing.
Standard Duties:
Compiles data and writes or revises text for informative, instructional, or promotional articles, user documentation, newsletters, electronic database publications, media guides, or similar materials of a technical nature. Researches topics, including gathering and sorting source and background materials; consults with various personnel to clarify details of source materials; provides statistical analysis of data as required. Participates in the writing of grant proposals, book chapters, curricula, syllabi, and similar materials. Plans layout of work, arranging sequence of topics and placement of graphics as applicable. May electronically upload publications and download news cables for analysis. Works in cooperation with marketing departments to create brochures, newsletters, and flyers, as appropriate. May coordinate department activities such as production of documents, scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, and maintaining files. May supervise and/or lead lower graded staff and/or student employees. Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems. Assists with departmental education and/or public relations events. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.
Proposal and grant writing skills. Skill in collecting, analyzing, verifying, and manipulating research data. Skill in developing design and layout of materials to be published. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
Ability to communicate with and understand the requirements of professional staff in area of specialty. Ability to interact with students, faculty and/or staff in a team environment. Ability to supervise and train assigned staff. Ability to write, edit, and/or revise a range of technical communications from specifically compiled raw data.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- No previous work experience required.
