Purpose of Classification:
Assists with the coordination of activities related to the identification, research and tracking of University donor prospects. Participates in research activities including data collection, evaluation and analysis.
Standard Duties:
Engage in first level prospect research which evaluates and analyzes research data which is then checked by senior researcher. Takes primary research data and develops narratives or summaries for development officers to aid in fundraising efforts. Position will begin training to develop more comprehensive reports under the direction of the senior researcher. Assists with final prospects list by organizing the identification, screening and rating of potential donors to the University. Works with senior researcher to deliver portfolio assignments to annual giving and development officers. Answers questions where possible as it relates to training to users of specialized database software. Completes repackaging assignments which includes putting together information for honorary degree nominations and biographies. Provides input to improve tracking systems that allows reporting on prospect activity. Under the direction of senior researcher identifies new foundations and corporation that might fit various University projects. Assists to improve research strategies and techniques. Assist in assigning, coordinating, and reviewing research on individuals, corporations and foundations using a wide variety of original source material including public documents, legal records, periodicals, computer databases, professional organizations, professional contacts and the Internet. Participates in the maintenance of prospect lists and tracking system. Serves as a resource to staff, development directors for information relating to the research of prospects.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the principles and techniques of prospect research. Knowledge of on-line Internet searching. Knowledge of Windows based software. Knowledge of the ethics statement of the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA).
Basic skill in coordinating the work of others, leading to a more advanced skills. Skill in making wise and creative decisions to present to the senior researcher. Skill in communicating effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to summarize research data reports. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Two (2) years of direct prospect research experience or three years of professional experience related to the standard duties as outlined.
