Purpose of Classification:
Coordinates activities related to the identification, research and tracking of University donor prospects. Directs, monitors and participates in research activities including data collection, evaluation and analysis.
Standard Duties:
Evaluates and analyzes research data and writes in-depth reports for Development Officers, Alumni Association staff, the President of the University and the President of the Foundation to use as an aid in fundraising efforts. Assists with final prospects list by organizing the identification, screening and rating of potential donors to the University. Provides training and technical assistance to users of specialized database software. Modifies and writes computer programs to establish or improve databases to track and report on prospect activity. Uses professional organizations and contacts, CD-ROM and Internet databases to identify new foundation and corporate prospects for specific University projects. Develops and completes various reports for management and/or development officers. Develops new research strategies and techniques, as new software and information resources become available. Participates in the decision making on the procurement of new resources (CD-ROMS and computer software) to support the research of new prospects. Assigns, coordinates, reviews and conducts in-depth research on individuals, corporations and foundations using a wide variety of original source material including public documents, legal records, periodicals, computer databases, professional organizations, professional contacts and the Internet. Participates in the maintenance of prospect lists and tracking system. Serves as a resource to staff, development Directors and University administrators for information relating to the research of prospects.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the principles and techniques of prospect research. Knowledge of on-line Internet searching. Knowledge of Windows based software. Knowledge of the ethics statement of the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA).
Skill in coordinating the work of others. Skill in making independent and creative decisions. Skill in communicating effectively and coordinating the work of others.
Ability to summarize research data and write in-depth reports. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Five (5) years of professional experience related to the standard duties as outlined.
