Purpose of Classification:
Host and synchronize programs on radio or television. Duties include reading news stories, providing lead-ins for reports by others, interviewing guests, conducting panel discussions or announcing sports events.
Standard Duties:
Reviews playlist and program log for assigned program periods and secures appropriate library recordings and written materials for performance of music, public information materials, promotional announcements, funding acknowledgements and other programmatic material. May introduce and announces various recordings on the air during an assigned shift; may write, provide commentary, or call sports events to the listening audience. May take transmitter readings and adjusts transmitter power. May respond to calls from listening audience and/or interview individuals. May cue and start recorded materials; maintain proper volume levels and monitors off-air transmissions to ascertain quality of sound reproduction. May operate broadcast control room origination equipment including microphones, sound mixers, audio recorders/reproducers and monitors. May document the broadcast program log to maintain an accurate record of all transmitted material noting discrepancies and deviations from scheduled program material. May select music to be aired for listening audiences. May perform voice over announcing for instructional media programs and/or television. Reviews voice-over scripts with program producer/directors and/or technical content experts; narrates scripts for various instructional media as applicable.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of Federal Communications Commission's regulations and rules governing broadcast operations of radio stations.
Skill in the pronunciation of foreign and technical names, places and titles. Skill in operating electronic broadcasting control and production systems. Skill in speaking clearly, diction and voice modulation.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- High School diploma or GED certificate.
   Experience- No previous work experience required.
