Purpose of Classification:
Under general supervision, manages and coordinates all on-air operations, uplink operations, and remote services for the University Communication’s radio station. Serves as a host, producer, and reporter for radio and television as assigned. Updates website and social media on a regular basis.
Standard Duties:
Oversees all facets of the daily operations of the organizational unit, ensuring compliance with the University, state, and federal laws, policies, and regulations. Manage and coordinates the station’s uplink facilities, to include scheduling, booking, and billing. Ensures that all on-air broadcast systems operate within FCC rules and regulations; maintains accurate records, discrepancy reports, and test reports; logs entries as required by FCC regulations. Researches and makes recommendations to management for capital and operating equipment acquisitions. Manages and coordinates the state microwave system, to include scheduling, booking, and billing. Oversees the provision of technical support services for studio and remote production activities; oversees other specialized services, such as cable systems, uplinks/downlinks, and other distribution systems. Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems. Serves as a host, producer, and reporter for radio and television as assigned. Updates website and social media on a regular basis. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise. Knowledge of FCC and other federal, state and local broadcasting regulations. Knowledge and understanding of television communications uplink, downlink, microwave, and other distribution systems. Knowledge of available television communication distribution systems, equipment, and facilities. Knowledge of budgeting, cost estimating, and fiscal management principles and procedures. Knowledge of on-air and remote broadcasting processes and procedures.
Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Employee development and performance management skills.
Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- High School diploma or GED certificate.
   Experience- Six (6) years of experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.
   Equivalency- Completion of a post-secondary degree or certificate may substitute for years of experience.
