Purpose of Classification:
Oversees production and on-air anchoring of newscasts and public affairs programs. Covers and prepares news stories for broadcast on television, radio, and online. Shoots and edits video. Updates website and produces social media posts, including a daily Facebook Live Video.
Standard Duties:
Generates assignments and evaluates news leads and news tips to develop story ideas. Ensures the accuracy of news and public affairs programs. Gather information about events through research, interviews, and attendance at political, news, sports, artistic, social, and other functions; research and analyze background information related to stories in order to be able to provide complete and accurate information. Edit news material to ensure that it fits within available time or space; prepare scripts, and coordinate and serve as an anchor on the news broadcast program. Trains department personnel, including students, interns, and volunteers. Participates in development, implementation and maintenance of policies, objectives, short-and long-range planning; develops and implements projects and programs to assist in accomplishment of established goals. Serves on search committees and other employment related committees as required.Monitors equipment usage and serviceability, and ensures the maintenance of equipment inventories. Ensures compliance with university policies and federal, state, and local regulations governing news coverage. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of journalism principles and techniques. Knowledge of editorial and ethical standards for the research and development of journalistic articles and/or presentations. Knowledge of news and public affairs radio program production. Knowledge of broadcasting techniques/procedures, protocols, and standards.
Records maintenance skills. Skill in the use of journalistic research and methods and techniques. Journalism writing skills
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to develop and deliver news reports and public affairs programs. Ability to collect, evaluate, and adapt news and public affairs items for incorporation into on-air and/or recorded broadcasts. Ability to train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Ability to train volunteers. Ability to participate in developing, planning, and implementing short- and long-range goals.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- One (1) year of experience related to the standard duties as outlined.
   Equivalency- Any equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience as approved by Human Resource Services.
