Purpose of Classification:
Holds a lead role in the university's multi-media news and public relations efforts; assists in guiding the operational functions of the unit.
Standard Duties:
Handles media requests, coordinating responses with media across colleges/departments. Cultivates and maintains good relationships with key media. Coordinates Radio/TV broadcast coverage. Conducts Media training. Serves as supervising editor of A&S digital magazine. Serves as editor of news releases, magazine articles, guest columns, etc. Serves as video equipment manager. Writes news releases, social media posts, guest columns. Takes photographs, shoots and edits video. Coordinates, schedules and edits weekly feature stories for LCSN partnership. Leads News Center infrastructure development. Supervises news clips process. Supervises Newswise media pitching, news release distribution. Maintains and updates Crisis Communication Plan; conducts MarComm crisis team training. Maintains and updates Emergency Planning and Preparedness web pages. Serves on Governmental Relations committee for GO Bonds.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Journalism theory, concepts, methods and writing techniques. Interviewing methods and techniques. Public relations and diplomacy theory, concepts, methods and techniques. Project and time management concepts, methods and techniques. Event scheduling and media coverage methods and techniques. Budget development and monitoring methods and techniques. Supervision and training methods, concepts, techniques and practices. Applicable University, state and federal law, rules and regulations. University's mission.
Proficient use of advanced English writing and editing. Investigating and analyzing information, drawing conclusions and writing news articles. Effectively communicating with University personnel and the public. Managing multiple project deadlines and assisting setting work priorities. Assisting with, and making scheduling and other arrangements for media coverage of specific events. Determining target distribution for stories, video and audio productions.
Work under continuous time constraints. Functionally supervise and train assign support staff. Assist with budget development and monitoring expenditures. Foster a cooperative work environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Five (5) years professional experience directly related to the duties outlined.
