Purpose of Classification: | |
Advances NMSU's through strategic communication consistent with the university's goals. | |
Standard Duties: | |
Directs the university’s central communications and media relations unit. Develops and executes communication strategies to influence targeted audiences through local, state, regional and national media coverage as well as social media via the web. Provides media counsel and communication support to administrators, faculty, staff and (occasionally) students. Develops and directs media training for faculty experts and university officials. Provides issues management support in difficult and challenging situations, including crises. | |
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: | |
Knowledge of university and department policies and procedures. Knowledge of the principles and practices of organization and administration; principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation. | |
Short and long-term planning; problem analysis and resolution; report preparation and presentation; interpersonal and organizational communication, both oral and written. | |
Develop and maintain effective working relationships; maintain accurate and orderly records; use independent judgment and initiative; organize and direct activities. | |
Minimum Qualifications: | |
Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field. | |
Experience- Eight (8) years of professional experience related to the standard duties as outlined. | |
