Purpose of Classification:
The Marketing and Publications Officer will support internal and external communications strategy. Working within overall direction established by senior management, this position will be responsible for articulating the organization’s desired image and position. Responsible for research and analysis of analytic data and the subsequent development and management of a unified social media engagement strategy to successfully communicate NMSU’s successes in student success, research, outreach and building a robust university.
Standard Duties:
Collaborate with management to develop and implement an effective digital communications strategy based on internal and external audiences. Build and execute social media strategy through competitive research, platform determination, benchmarking, messaging and audience identification. Responsible for project management of internal and external marketing and communications publications, marketing materials and other communication projects. Provides recommendations, training, and direction to other staff regarding marketing, communications, and social media. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge and understanding of principles, procedures, regulations, and standards applicable to the job. Understanding of the University’s mission, vision and goals. Knowledge of using social media platforms. (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, SnapChat, Pinterest, etc). Knowledge of SEO and web traffic metrics. Knowledge writing, editing and creating content for the social media space. Knowledge of digital and social media marketing.
Short and long-term planning; problem analysis and resolution; report preparation and presentation; interpersonal and organizational communication, both oral and written. Skill in use of personal computer and related software applications. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to write and edit clear copy for social media that presents brand voice in a relevant, meaningful dialogue with target audiences
Develop and maintain effective working relationships; maintain accurate and orderly records; use independent judgment and initiative; organize and direct activities.. Ability to hire, train, supervise and motivate staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Five (5) years of experience related to the standard duties as outlined.
