Purpose of Classification:
Under administrative direction builds and sustains mutually beneficial relationships with corporations and foundations for advancing knowledge and supporting scholarships, programs, and research at NMSU. Works with campus partners including the president and provost’s office, the dean for research, College development officers, department chairs, and faculty members. Manages a portfolio; formulates and executes strategies to maximize potential gifts.
Standard Duties:
Manages a portfolio of corporations and/or foundations and maintains relationships on behalf of NMSU. Management of this portfolio includes all phases of the development cycle, including identification of opportunities, cultivation of foundation/corporate prospects through interaction with program officers, interaction with NMSU faculty and staff for strategy development, solicitation via proposal submissions or verbal pitches, and stewardship via assistance with reporting requirements. Manages and evaluates the design, development, and coordination of projects. Participates in committees and task forces designed to improve the quality of service to students and co-workers. Participates in training programs and professional development workshops and conferences. . Contributes creative, dynamic and forward-looking ideas and approaches by developing new relationships and deepening existing ones. Benchmarks with other institutions and to research policies and strategies. Completes reports related to recruitment, special programs, and professional development. Conducts research as appropriate to projects or initiatives within the work unit. Assists the Director in preparing and monitoring departmental goals. Develops objectives and activities based on department goals. Prepares or coordinates preparation of financial and administrative reports; analyzes and interprets statistics, financial data, and management planning data for predicting resource needs and developing long-range plans. Conducts and assists with the development of long and short-range goals. Serves as representative of the University at state, regional and national organizations, boards, councils, and committees as assigned. Acts as liaison with the community, students, faculty, and staff in facilitating university programs. Develops, maintains, and implements department policies and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of communication and marketing strategies, processes and available resources. Knowledge of development writing strategies and rhetorical techniques. Knowledge of research methods and avenues. Knowledge of the principles and practices pertaining to the assigned department. Knowledge of budget management methods and techniques.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Skill in conceptualizing and refining ideas and approaches. Skill in creating written and verbal development presentations. Skill in the use of personal computers, related software applications and databases. Skill in organizing resources, establishing priorities and segmenting data. Must be an independent thinker. Skill in program development and execution. Skill in problem solving and decision-making. Skill in planning, analyzing and coordinating activities and establishing priorities. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Ability to work with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds. Ability to work with diverse deans, professors, researchers and development officers within colleges and units. Ability to provide excellent customer service. Ability to persuade and influence others.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field
   Experience- Three (3) years of professional experience related to the standard duties as outlined.
