Purpose of Classification:
The Executive Director of Alumni and Donor Relations is responsible for providing strategic direction for every aspect of the alumni relations and donor relations programs and will provide compliance and coordination support for Foundation gift funds. The Executive Director creates, implements, and evaluates strategic programs to educate, cultivate, solicit and steward New Mexico State University alumni, donors, and students. The Executive Director interfaces daily with Office of Advancement staff, and faculty and staff within the colleges and University administration.
Standard Duties:
Engages a community of over 145,000 living alumni and donors, providing a strategic vision of engagement in partnership with the Office of Advancement, the colleges and University administration. Creates communications and programming that develop and encourage lifelong relationships between the University and its alumni and donors. Manages the preparation of annual endowed fund reports and impact reports for donors; assists in the preparation of yearly annual reports. Develops, executes and manages a student leadership program on behalf of the Foundation. Provides compliance support for existing gift fund maintenance and newly created gift agreements; Establishes and monitors metrics, goals and analysis of endowed funds. Develops, executes and manages events and engagement to broaden alumni and donor participation and to build awareness of NMSU key strategic initiatives. Develops a stewardship and communication plan for donors based on levels of giving; Develops a tailored stewardship plan for top donors based on interests. Serves as liaison to the NMSU Alumni Association and the Pioneer Board; assists as needed in providing support to the Foundation Board. Coordinates nominations and selections for Distinguished Alumni recipients, Outstanding Graduate recipients, the James F. Cole Memorial Award, the Young Alumni Service Award and Honorary Degree recipient(s). Supervises three staff responsible for Alumni Relations, Donor Relations and Gift Fund Compliance/SD$. Collaborates with University colleagues to create and maintain pathways for alumni and donor participation that advance the goals of the University. Handles matters that are sensitive, confidential, and require a high level of professionalism. Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of web-based content management systems (CMS), social networking sites, and e-communication vehicles. Knowledge and experience in planning, organizing and facilitating a wide range of special events. Knowledge and demonstrated accomplishment in fostering productive relationships with volunteers, including recruiting, training and motivating volunteers.
Strong oral communications skills, including significant experience in project management and the ability to successfully manage large projects simultaneously. Strong written communications skillset. Demonstrated success in leadership roles. Excellent organization, time management, analytical and administrative skills.
Ability to work independently and as a team member; takes initiative; prioritizes, problem-solves; analyzes and summarizes information; detail-oriented with the ability to see the larger picture. Demonstrated ability to strategize, implement and build constituency programs and activities. Willingness to travel locally and nationally, and work evenings and weekends as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Five (5) years of experience related to the standard duties as outlined.
