Purpose of Classification: | |
To design, coordinate, and implement State Government relations activities and programs of New Mexico State University. | |
Standard Duties: | |
Supervise, direct, delegate, and evaluate work of assigned staff. Designs, coordinates and implements the University's government relations programs and initiatives in respect to all state governmental levels. Develops and/or assists the Assistant Vice President for Government Relations in the research, development, and delivery of presentations to the Chancellor and/or President and/or the Board of Regents. Performs and contributes in the planning, organizing, and implementation of strategies for government relations activities and initiatives. Coordinates, facilitates, and/or assists in the planning and execution of special projects on behalf of the Assistant Vice President for Government Relations, as appropriate. Perform related duties as required. | |
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: | |
University policies and procedures; state legislative and regulatory processes; knowledge of the State legislative budget and appropriations and capital outlay process; knowledge of government relations principles, methods, and techniques at the state level; knowledge and understanding of the mission, goals, organizations, and operational/financial infrastructure of a public university; and knowledge and understanding of the NM Lobbyist Regulation Act and the Gift Rule Act. | |
Communication, leadership; problem solving skills; organizing diverse groups; public relations; project planning and excellent oral and written communication skills. | |
Represent the University and make presentations; establish relationships with the educational community and other university constituency groups; communicate effectively in written and oral forms; use independent judgment and initiative; develop and maintain effective working relationships internally and with constituent groups; Extensive in-state travel is required. | |
Minimum Qualifications: | |
Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field. | |
Experience- Eight (8) years of increasingly progressive management experience in one or more areas that report to this position. | |
