Purpose of Classification:
Oversees, monitors, supervises and evaluates prospect research functions and systems to support campaign and fundraising efforts. Develops and articulates strategy for the solicitation of transformational and principal gifts by University Advancement leadership.
Standard Duties:
Oversees all prospect research functions, protocols, and systems. Develops and articulates strategy for solicitation of principal gifts; supports development work of University and Advancement leadership; oversees prospect management for all gift officers. Conducts research on potential donors to NMSU; prepares research products, including briefing documents for the NMSU President. Manages the flow of work through the research office, prioritizing and assigning work. Solicits, evaluates and recommends procurement of resources as needed. Serves as a resource to University and Advancement leadership, as well as Major Gift Officers, Deans, and faculty as needed. Supervises work of Development Research Specialists, contract researchers, and student employees.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Understanding of the University's mission, vision and goals. Knowledge of the ethics statement of the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA). Exceptional understanding of the best practices in fund development. Knowledge of the Donor Bill of Rights.
Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with university leadership, academic leadership, faculty, prospects, donors, and volunteers in a wide range of roles. Skills in budget preparation and fiscal management. Campaign planning and management skills. Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively in print materials and to small and large groups. Skill in making independent and creative decisions.
Demonstrated ability in planning and implementing long- and short- range development initiatives in conjunction with strategic planning processes. Exceptional knowledge of the best practice principles and techniques of prospect research. Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Ability to exercise good judgment, to demonstrate understanding of ethics related to development activities, and to use discretion in interactions with donors, prospects, volunteers, and others. Ability to summarize research data and write in-depth reports. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Eight (8) years of directly related professional experience.
