Purpose of Classification:
Under minimal supervision, designs and/or coordinates the development and design of complex electronic and/or printed graphic materials, involving a variety of integrated steps and processes, and requiring extensive knowledge of specialized, multi-faceted design concepts and media. Creates complex, original graphic design and comprehensive layout concepts, and oversees and coordinates production of materials. May lead and guide the work of graphic designers and/or students.
Standard Duties:
Manages complex project schedules. Conceptualizes, plans, designs, and produces specialized graphic and/or illustrative material. Works with clientele to ascertain needs and to develop graphic directions, concepts, and specifications for assigned projects. Works Closely with photographers and provides art direction at phot shots. Plans production schedules for the various steps in the design process; analyzes and projects development costs and develops project budgets and workflow. Oversees and coordinates the production process; develops and writes printing and/or other production specifications, and selects appropriate production media and materials, such as ink and paper; inspects proofs for accuracy and adherence to appropriate production standards. Establishes the look and feel for branded campaigns. Provides technical advice and guidance, and serves as liaison with production personnel, authors, publishers, clients, and/or printing representatives on design and technical graphics issues to ensure quality production of materials and attends press checks. Participates in strategic planning process and provides recommendations on complex design challenges Participates in production and/or marketing planning group sessions and meetings, on a project basis. Writes and edits basic copy, as appropriate, which may include press releases in some instances. Will contribute to social media planning and develop materials. Will provide direction and critique work of designers. Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Expertise in principles and practices of graphic design. Expertise in graphic layout and photographic requirements and procedures. Knowledge of printing and/or reproduction processes and techniques. Knowledge of printing procedures and requirements.
Skills in the utilization of specified computerized graphic design programs. Budget development and management skills as related to the production of new digital or traditional media communications. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.
Ability to professionally present concepts. Ability to articulate the vision behind creative materials. Ability to develop innovative, original design solutions for high-end products. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to create and produce graphic materials using a range of media, methods, techniques, and equipment. Ability to analyze graphic and technical information and create interpretive illustrations. Ability to analyze and interpret user graphic requirements. Ability to develop print and/or reproduction specifications.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Five (5) years of experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.
