Purpose of Classification:
Reports to a centralized VPR division, oversees proposal development team operations to enhance services offered to researchers and research staff across campuses. Provides proposal development support to enhance the ability of NMSU to conduct research and retain high-quality researchers and students. Supports large-scale, multi-million-dollar research proposal efforts that require coordination across colleges within NMSU and with other institutions.
Standard Duties:
Works under limited supervision and provides management advisory services. Identifies and develops strategic funding opportunities. Directs and supports faculty and research staff in the planning and development of proposals, including large interdisciplinary proposals, in response to Requests for Proposals (RFPs): analyzing RFPs; providing proposal planning and coordination, including developing strategies and themes; ensuring that the proposal sections comply with RFP instructions; technical writing, editing, and proofreading; developing visuals; and reviewing proposals to provide guidance to faculty. Edits proposals and documents/publications. Reviews proposals to ensure compliance with RFP requirements and instructions. Develops boilerplate materials, brochures, and presentations. Organizes and participates in conferences, workshops, and meetings related to research endeavors. Provides leadership and management of professional research development staff within the unit.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Advanced knowledge of proposal development process, including techniques for planning, organizing, and strategizing. Advanced knowledge of federal funding sources and mechanisms. Advanced knowledge of federal application requirements, policies, and procedures.
Excellent skills in proposal development, writing, and editing for federal, state, and other funding agencies. Excellent oral and written communication with high-level presentation skills. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Excellent writing and editing skills with ability to lead and direct proposal development team work products.
Ability to supervise, train, and evaluate employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. Ability to work with minimum supervision on major proposals and projects alongside faculty and administrators. Ability to work with faculty and research staff with diverse research interests. Ability to work in a team environment. Ability to prioritize tasks and meet tight deadlines. Ability to make procedural decisions and judgments in a leadership capacity.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Eight (8) years of professional experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.
